Katie Johnson LCPC

Katie’s style of counseling revolves around YOU as the client. She feels that a strong therapeutic alliance and a collaborative approach to treatment are fundamental components in measuring success in therapy. Katie firmly believes that this collaborative approach, which she defines as working together to establish your goals and discover various means of reaching clients, is a key component to emotional growth. Using your identified strengths, Katie will work with you to explore which strategies work, as well as help you recognize past approaches that haven't, in order to help you move toward a more comfortable place in the healthiest and most efficient way possible.
Katie’s therapeutic style reflects a strong background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (thoughts affect feelings which affect behaviors), with additional experience using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (skills to regulate emotions) as well Client Centered techniques. However, Katie finds it most effective to align her counseling technique to whatever method will most benefit your needs. She uses a gentle, but direct, approach, which she believes allows you or your family members to get the most out of treatment.
Katie received extensive training through the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) and has had years of experience working with survivors of sexual trauma. She also offers support to first responders (firefighters, paramedics, police, etc.) and their loved ones, in which she addresses issues of trauma, stress, and how the family is affected by the job.
Katie has numerous years of experience working with children and adolescents, and their families. She is skilled at working with the following areas; Attention Difficulties, Anger Management, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorders, Career Development, Adolescents, Couples, Marriage, Depression, Divorce, Family Therapy, Mens Issues, Grief/Loss, Lack of Hobbies/Passion, Mental Health, Parenting, Integrative Health, Learning Disability, Legal Problems, LGBQT, Personal Development, Pregnancy, Self Esteem, Sexuality, Social Support, Spirituality, Stress, Time Management, Trauma/Abuse, Gender Identity, Psychosis, Personality Disorders, and Women’s Issues.
