Torrey Dunk MA, NCC, LCPC
As we go through life, we all often encounter hurdles in the road of life. Some of these hurdles, we jump or dodge with the greatest of ease. Other hurdles, we seemingly are unable to pass, despite repeated efforts to do so. During such challenging times, we may begin to experience symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, anger, academic and other school-related struggles. These symptoms may be short lived. Others may last longer than we expect and may be a sign of something more significant related to chronic emotional struggles, trauma, eating disorders, self-harm (cutting), grief, executive functioning difficulties and self-esteem issues. As we try to address and manage these conditions we often find ourselves needing help from caring professionals. As a licensed clinical therapist I work to create a safe, supportive, and confidential environment to work together on our agreed upon stated goals. My style employs a collaborative and holistic approach that highlights the strengths of the client. Once this is in place, my goal is to assist clients in building insight into their stated symptoms and to improve their relationship with themselves and those around them. During our journey through the therapeutic process, I utilize thoughtfulness authenticity, patience, compassion and calmness in my approach. Together, we can identify stressors related to challenging areas of life and collaboratively develop the tools necessary to create change. This then allows you to move towards increased psychological health and meet life’s challenges.
I provide you with nearly two decades of experience with a wide variety of skills to work with children, teens, families, and adults. These experiences include persons who have experienced in-patient and out-patient psychiatric hospitalizations, residential treatments, and school environments. I have developed a large tool chest of skills used to empower those I work with. This allows me to most often accurately perceive and quickly understand clients’ experiences while assisting them and their families in creating and developing lasting change in their lives. During therapy, we will utilize a variety of different methods based on what clients present with. Professionally, these methods are known as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Emotion-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
